  • Career Highlights: Stettinius, the second-ranked female American modern pentathlete behind Margaux Isaksen, participated in her first pentathlon during her senior year of high school. Her career took off after taking silver in the 2009 NORCECA championships and she hasn’t looked back since. The 2011 McDaniel College graduate dominated the 2011 championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, last July, prevailing in the last eight bouts of the fencing competition and moving into first by shooting under 17 seconds on her first two rounds. She bested a field of 24 to win gold. In October, she finished seventh at the Pan Am games. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the Parkton, Md., native, however. Stettinius suffered a broken neck during a horse race in 2009 and fractured her collarbone during a training accident earlier this year. When Stettinius isn’t competing, she can be found listening to country music or watching her favorite movie, The Lion King.
