  • Career Highlights: Rapinoe is a fan favorite with high energy and dazzling skill on the ball, giving the U.S. a strong offensive threat on the left side of the field. She's also been used as a substitute in order to take advantage of her work rate and ball possession. Rapinoe is entering her first Olympics after becoming a breakout star at last summer's World Cup. She gained global notoriety for her cross that was headed into the goal by Abby Wambach in the final seconds of overtime to force a penalty shootout against Brazil in the quarterfinals. Rapinoe then converted her shootout attempt as the U.S. went on to advance in dramatic fashion. She helped the U.S. qualify for the Olympics out of the CONCACAF region, scoring a goal as the team won all five games while outscoring opponents 38-0. While she's proven to be a clutch performer, Rapinoe is expected to continue in her role as an offensive option off the bench.
