  • Career Highlights: Railey burst on the scene as a first-time Olympian in Beijing in 2008, coming away with a silver medal in the Finn. He lost out to Britain's Ben Ainslie, who won his third straight gold in the event, and could be an early favorite to extend that streak in London. After sailing the lighter Laser class from the age of 13, Railey made the switch to the Finn in 2005 following a growth spurt that would allow him to better handle a much heavier vessel. "It's kind of like an animal," Railey told teamusa.org of the Finn. "It's probably the hardest boat to sail in Olympic-class sailing." Last summer, Railey was ranked fifth in the world in the category after having held the top spot earlier in the year. He is social media-friendly with his own website, zach2012.com, and Twitter feed, @zachsail. A 2006 graduate from the University of Miami, Railey has indicated an interest in coaching at some point. He lists Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong as inspirations due to their focused mentalities. Railey's sister, Paige, is also an Olympic hopeful in sailing.
