  • Career Highlights: Day won the silver medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing as a member of the first-ever US BMX Olympic Team. He sailed through the semifinal round by winning the seeding time trial and swept all three races in the quarterfinals. Day broke onto the national scene in 2004, when he earned spots on the podium at both the X Games and at a UCI Supercross World Cup race. Among his accomplishments are 2nd-place finishes at the BMX World Championships in 2005 and 2009 and a 3rd-place finish in 2006. Day’s official race number is 365, so from the back, his jersey and race number read “365 Day.” As a taller rider, Day can get his wheel up high over jumps and his additional weight on landing allows him to gain extra momentum on straightaways. After years of back pain, Day finally decided to have surgery in spring 2010 to replace a herniated, bulging disc with an artificial one. His older brother Dave and younger brother Matt were both BMX competitors and Mike took up the sport on his ninth birthday. Mike is an avid dog lover and has an English bulldog named “Tater.”
