Career Highlights: A member of the national team since 2006 and a rare United States Olympic water polo athlete not from the West Coast, Armstrong will try to backstop the USA to gold in London after she was the starting goalie for the 2008 team that won silver in Beijing. The University of Michigan product has helped the American women win gold at several other tournaments including the 2007 and 2009 world championships. Armstrong made 28 saves to help Team USA win gold at the 2011 Pan American Games, officially qualifying the team for these Olympics. She and the Americans lost the 2008 Olympic gold medal match 9-8 to the Netherlands, but she acquitted herself well by turning aside 49 shots. Armstrong was named the 2010 female water polo player of the year by FINA Aquatics World Magazine.
