Capitals sign Wilson to 3-year contract

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) The Washington Capitals have signed forward Tom Wilson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old Wilson was the 16th overall pick in the NHL draft. The deal is worth $832,500 per year at the NHL level, and $70,000 per year at the AHL level.

The forward had 27 points and 141 penalty minutes in 49 games with the Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League and 13 points in 13 playoff games.

Wilson is expected to play for Plymouth this season, the Capitals said in making the announcement Thursday.

He's the second of two first-round picks signed by the Capitals. Last week, 11th overall pick Filip Forsberg signed.
