Voynov announced his intention to self-deport Wednesday in a statement through his agent, Rolland Hedges.
Analysis: Voynov pleaded no contest in July to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence against his wife, Marta Varlamova. The two-time Stanley Cup champion spent two months in jail before his release Sept. 3, when he was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Analysis: The Los Angeles Times reports the Russian citizen faces possible deportation. He is being held without bail pending a hearing before an immigration judge. The 25-year-old defenseman was arrested at his Redondo Beach home in October after an argument with his wife. Police say he choked and kicked her.

The Kings defenseman entered the plea Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Analysis: Under terms of the plea deal, he was sentenced to a 90-day jail term and three years of probation. The plea averts a trial on a felony count. The Russian Olympian was charged with corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury after an argument at a party attended by other Kings players. Prosecutors say Voynov choked and hit his wife and pushed her into a TV in their Redondo Beach bedroom. A cut over her eye required eight stitches.
