Analysis: The Canadiens' goaltending carousel has been in constant rotation this season as former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price has been nursing a lower-body injury while backup Al Montoya is sidelined due to a concussion. Niemi has struggled this season, however, posting an 0-4-0 mark in five appearances with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers.

Analysis: Niemi was 0-3 with a .750 goals-against average and a .797 save percentage in three games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 34-year-old was placed on waivers by Pittsburgh on Monday and is joining his fifth team. Niemi will backup James Reimer, who was elevated to the starting role when Luongo was placed on injured reserve with a hand injury on Saturday.

June 26 8:57 AM PT9:57 AM MT10:57 AM CT11:57 AM ET15:57 GMT23:57 8:57 AM MST10:57 AM EST19:57 UAE11:57 ETNaN: BRT - The Stars have placed Niemi on waivers with the intention of buying out the final year of his contract.
Analysis: Niemi is due to make $4.5 million next season, and would be bought out at $3 million spread over two years. The ninth-year player, who won a Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2010, is coming off a disappointing season in which he went 12-12-4 and had a 3.3 goals-against average in 37 games. He became the odd-man out in Dallas behind Kari Lehtonen and after Ben Bishop was acquired in a trade last month.
