Analysis: Knuble was injured on a power play in the first period of Friday night's 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild. He crashed into the net when defenseman Marek Zidlicky sent him hurdling over goaltender Josh Harding. The Capitals said Knuble will have surgery. Knuble has five goals and 10 assists for the Capitals this season. He was one of Washington's major offseason acquisitions, signing a two-year deal, $5.6 million deal on the first day of NHL free agency in July. |

Analysis: Knuble, who turns 37 on Saturday, had 27 goals and 20 assists in 82 games for Philadelphia last season. He could replace Viktor Kozlov, who signed with Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League last month, as a first-line forward alongside left wing Alex Ovechkin and center Nicklas Backstrom. In 13 seasons with Detroit, the New York Rangers, Boston and Philadelphia, Knuble has 215 goals and 214 assists in 820 games. |
