5th Round

Overview: Coming to Virginia Tech by way of Butler Community College, Barno played linebacker at the JUCO level and spent his first year with the Hokies in that same role. He moved to defensive end in 2020 and put up elite production despite his relative inexperience. His numbers tapered off as a senior but he looked more improved from both a strength and technical standpoint. He's not a clear positional fit at the next level, but he's a rare physical specimen.

Strengths: Sports great length that allows him to help dictate engagements with blockers. Natural stand-up rusher who is very light on his feet. Plays with good balance for his size when it comes to absorbing and adjusting to contact. Reliable tackler who can use his wingspan efficiently. Athletic mover who can drop into coverage and pick up backs. Plays with a nice motor and will continue to find angles to attack late in reps as a pass-rusher. Spin move is polished and fluid.

Weaknesses: Incredibly thin frame with basketball player legs. Unlikely to have versatility to play defensive end given the physical difficulties he'd face. Not particularly bendy and will have a hard time turning the corner around linemen. Lacks the shock in his hands to knock back tackles and get them on their heels. Struggles to get off blocks and make an impact in the run game when facing larger opponents.

Pro Comp: Justin Hollins, Los Angeles Rams -- Barno's experience working with his hand in the dirt will intrigue 4-3 teams looking to bulk him up. If that fails, he still has the athleticism to play in space as a linebacker. At worst, his speed and engine should lead to a healthy career on special teams.
