Scouting Report

40 time: 5.35

5th-6th Round

Spotlight: Recruited as a guard but moved to tackle and developed into a two-year starter although he has seen action at guard in college. He went largely unnoticed as a prospect until his senior year, but being part of a championship winning program helped put him on the national stage and earn second-team all-SEC honors. He'll be forced to move inside as a pro due to his limited mobility, but the ability to play tackle in a pinch will be valued.

Strengths: Has plenty of experience playing tackle and could be used there in an emergency. Possesses ideal length. Powerful striker who can punch holes through the chest of defenders. Hand usage in pass protection has flashes. Has some road grader to his game and he'll create push to drive back defenders in short yardage situations. Hard to knock back and move into the pocket; brick wall once he settles his feet and gets situated.

Weaknesses: Thin lower half is out of the norm for interior lineman. Gets out over his feet and it causes some issues with his balance. Average open-field athlete who won't be able to consistently land against linebackers. Stiff in the hips and unable to flip his angles on short notice. Clunky with his movements and doesn't have ideal body control. Too inconsistent from snap to snap.

Pro Comp: Isaac Asiata, Retired - Asiata's career was cut short, but he was a run game winner with ideal size and pop in his hands. Salyer possesses a lot of the same traits, although his versatility should give him more sticking power.
