Scouting Report |
40 time: 4.70 7th Round Overview: Allen has been able to draw interest as a potential late-round selection despite missing almost two full seasons to injury, including his 2021 season. He produced at a low level during 2017 and 2019, but his improved production in 2020 led to second-team All-SEC honors. The medical questions that loom with Allen's lower half will play a big role in where he ends up on draft day, but he has the edge-setting ability to warrant an opportunity. Strengths: Impressive length for an outside linebacker and he uses it well to shed blocks. Swoops into gang tackles and gets his piece of flesh. Sturdy run defender who can hold his ground and set a good edge. Sure-fire tackler who won't slip off many attempts. Hand usage can be powerful and savage. Capable athlete with enough range to work in coverage. Play strength allows him to fight through angles and finish reps late. Weaknesses: Stiff in his lower half and lacks the flexibility to bend around tough angles. Doesn't have much of a finesse aspect to his pass-rushing plan. Average get-off won't be threatening for most NFL offensive tackles. Struggles to flip his hips and change directions in space. Will be outclassed physically by most offensive linemen. Pro Comp: Jacob Pugh, Retired -- Pugh was a hybrid defensive end and outside linebacker who had some great flashes thanks to his length, but he struggled to translate it to the pro game. Allen is a sturdier run defender with better technique, however he will likely be bound to a practice squad or depth role early on. |
