The 2019 NFL Draft might be best known for the talent playing along the defensive line but a strong argument could be made that the best defender in the country last season was White, LSU's consensus All-American and Butkus Award-winning linebacker.
Despite missing half of the much-anticipated rivalry game against Alabama due to a highly questionable targeting call the previous week, White led the SEC with 123 total tackles in 2018, nearly doubling his number of solo stops (62) from his 2017 campaign when he averaged a conference-best 10.2 tackles per game.
White earned First-team All-SEC honors after both his junior and sophomore seasons after making the power conference's All-Freshman list in 2016, leaving as one of the accomplished athletes in LSU's storied history.
ANALYSISBuilt like a Sherman tank with a compact, powerful frame. White wins with an ideal blend of sideline to sideline speed, toughness to take on and discard would-be blockers quickly and excellent diagnosis skills.
White plays like the former running back he is, showing excellent stop and start quickness to avoid would-be blockers in tight spaces, as well as the vision and anticipation to hit holes at full speed.
He is a true thumper, generating eye-popping collisions with dramatic closing speed and supreme stopping power due to his compact frame and iron-like grip.
Resourceful tackler, showing not only true knockdown power (three forced fumbles in 2018) but also the ability to wrestle ballcarriers to the ground due to his strength and tenacity. Improved awareness and timing in coverage in 2018, doubling previous career-highs with six passes broken up.
Voted a "permanent" team captain over 2017-18 seasons. Beloved by the coaching staff, players and fans at LSU for his dedication to the program and never-say-die attitude. Struggled with the decision to leave LSU early for the NFL despite receiving a first-round grade from the NFL Advisory Committee, penning a nearly 2,000-word letter thanking dozens in and around the program by name for their support.
Projection: First Round
