Scouting Report

Allen has proven production against quality competition and grades well in key areas teams seek in their pass rushers -- power, technique and hustle to affect quarterbacks. He doesn't have the explosive speed or sudden burst of some of the elite pass rushers, but don't count Allen out based on straight-line speed.

With pass rusher extraordinaire Harold Landry drawing plenty of attention on the other side, Allen emerged as one of the real breakout stars in all of college football as a junior in 2017, jumping from 36 tackles over 13 games (including one start) as a sophomore to a cool 100 tackles as a junior, including 15.5 for loss and 4.0 sacks.

With Landry in the NFL - a second-round pick of the Tennessee Titans - Allen was the focus of blocking schemes in 2018. His 61 tackles included 15 for loss and a career-high 6.5 sacks to rate among the nation's most productive defensive linemen. Allen was named All-ACC and made the trip to the Senior Bowl.

Broad shouldered, country-strong frame with good overall weight distribution including a thick lower half. Good initial quickness for a big man and times the snap well. While lacking preferred top-end speed, Allen accelerates smoothly upfield for a defender of his size and affects the passer in other ways, including with his ability to get his long 34 1/2-inch arms into throwing lanes, breaking up 14 passes over his career, including a career-high seven in 2018. He also had two blocked kicks.

Allen projects best as a two-gap defender -- outside in a traditional 3-4 alignment or inside at tackle in the 4-3. He might not carry the same ceiling of some of his more athletic peers in this class, but Allen is a blue-collar player who gives everything he has on every snap, projecting as a quality second- or third-round prospect and future starter.

Projection: Second Round
