Personifying the argument for returning to school, Baker gave up a chance at being an early draft pick in 2018 to head back to Athens and help the Bulldogs defend their SEC crown and compete for a national title. Though Georgia came up short of its team goals, Baker earning the Thorpe Award and first-team All-SEC honors in 2018 with 40 tackles, nine passes broken up (tying his career high) and two interceptions.
It is appropriate that Baker was a Bulldog as he plays with that kind of mentality. While not the biggest or fastest, Baker does not back down from a fight, showing the quickness, physicality and toughness to continue his success in the NFL.
Baker possesses a compact, athletic frame with good overall muscular distribution. He is light on his feet, showing the agility and acceleration to handle man to man duties, excelling in short and intermediate routes because of his honed anticipatory skills. A three-year starter, Baker has seen it all and his experience shows with his ability to undercut routes, demonstrating excellent click and close quickness. Impressive body control and hand-eye coordination to slip his hand between those of intended receivers to knock the ball away, recording nine passes broken up (in the run-heavy SEC) each of the past two seasons. Seems to enjoy the showdown offered by man coverage and is a scrapper in the running game, showing zero hesitation with bigger ballcarriers barreling towards him. Physical, wrap-up tackler who plays bigger than his size.
While made faster due to his instincts, too reliant on his initial jam at the line of scrimmage to re-route speedsters, lacking the instant acceleration to recover if beaten initially. Possesses good but not great hands for the interception, turning seven of his 23 career passes defensed into turnovers. Raised some eyebrows with his decision to sit out the Sugar Bowl (which Georgia lost 28-21 to Texas) to get an early start on his preparation for workouts.
Projection: First Round
