ANALYSIS

Rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his two seasons with UCLA. His highlight was a monster 40-carry, 289-yard effort in a win over USC in 2018. Spent his first two seasons (2015-16) at FBS school UC Davis, where he also did good work on kick returns.

OVERVIEW

Natural hands-catcher who rarely drops backfield tosses. Active blocker who pushes the pace even when he's overmatched from a size standpoint. Won't step out of bounds when there's room to gain more ground. Toughness is sufficient. Fast processor who picks his lanes without hesitating.

Doesn't do anything dynamic in space and shouldn't be expected to make defenders miss once he gets there. Lack of burst means he'll get caught trying to explode through the hole. Short strider with heavy feet weighing him down. Doesn't take much to bring down, even from solo tacklers. Lateral agility isn't enough to get out of the way when tacklers are honing in. Power falls below desired thresholds for the position. Can't play behind his pads and drive his weight into collisions.

PRO COMPARISON

Vick Ballard, retired -- Ballard saw mild success early in his career with the Indianapolis Colts but fizzled out after a litany of injuries. Kelley's meat-and-potatoes style of running compares similarly to Ballard's. He may not possess the power or speed to be a dominant back in the pros, but he can contribute on all three downs and take what the offensive line gives. Anticipate a job as a third-string running back as he acclimates to the league.
