Abram took a circuitous route to the NFL, spending time with three separate programs after signing with Georgia out of high school, where he was also a dual-threat quarterback.
Though he was joining one of the more talented teams in the country, Abram immediately stood out in Athens, earning four starts as a true freshman. Citing "personal issues" which may have been related to the pending departure of then-Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, Abram opted to transfer following his freshman season.
He spent a year at Jones County Junior College in his home state of Mississippi before returning to the SEC with the Bulldogs as a highly sought-after third-year junior.
Abram played well as a junior, starting every game and recording 71 tackles, including five for loss and breaking up five passes. He was even better in 2018, earning first-team All-SEC honors from conference coaches with 99 tackles, including nine for loss and recording the only two interceptions of his FBS career.
Shorter than ideal but possesses a physically-imposing frame with broad shoulders and good overall musculature. Aggressive tackler, especially in run support, though he can run a bit hot and cold as a tackler. Suffers from some occasional lunges in an effort to deliver knockout hits, too often relying on the force he generates to knock down ballcarriers rather than wrapping his arms securely. Attacks the ballcarrier, showing the ability to deliver bone-rattling hits and separate the football, forcing three fumbles over the 2017-18 seasons.
Good agility for changing directions and accelerates fluidly, possessing enough raw speed and athleticism to handle NFL competition, as demonstrated at the Combine. Improved hands for the interception in 2018. A bit tentative in coverage. Attempts to read the eyes of the QB or the gait of the receiver and is too easily deked, proving vulnerable to play-action due to his aggressive tendencies.
Projection: Second Round
