Scouting Report

It isn't often that preps starring in SEC country move across the country to compete in the PAC-12 but that was the case with Ugochukwu "Ugo" Amadi, who signed with the Ducks as a four-star recruit at cornerback out of Tennessee.

Amadi's instincts, quickness and knack for making big plays caught the attention of Oregon coaches. He started four games as a true freshman and played in all 13 contests, registering 25 tackles and turning two of his three pass breakups into interceptions.

His production jumped to 42 tackles (and six passes broken up) as a sophomore before a breakout junior campaign in which he tied for the team lead in both interceptions (four) and forced fumbles (three), along with 43 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and eight passes defensed.

With all due respect to Oregon's talented front seven defenders - including projected 2019 draft picks Jalen Jelks and Justin Hollins - Amadi was clearly the Ducks' top defensive playmaker in 2018 when he took two of his three interceptions back for touchdowns while chipping in another on a punt return, giving him four touchdowns scored over the past two seasons.

Short but not small defensive back who sports a compact, athletic frame. Pitter-pat footwork and greasy joints make Amadi significantly quicker and better in coverage than most safeties, helping him shadow slot receivers and running backs in coverage, including out of the slot.

Good lateral agility and spatial awareness to dance past would-be blockers in tight quarters without sacrificing yardage. Legitimate weapon with the ball in his hands, taking back a punt for a TD (UCLA) in 2018. Fearless in traffic, showing elusiveness to shake would-be tacklers, as well as vision to set up blocks and at least average top-end speed for the position.

While Amadi may lack ideal size, he certainly has proven durable, playing in all 51 games of his career at Oregon and earning the starting nod 34 times.

Projection: Fifth Round
