| A sophomore who was slated to start for a program known for pro-caliber quarterbacks, Corp seemed on his way to stardom and a high NFL draft pick heading into the 2009 season at USC. Instead, a broken leg in the preseason would relegate Corp to the backup role and he couldn't regain the starting job from Matt Barkley, leading to his transfer to Richmond after that season. Going from a top-flight football factory to an FCS school surely hurt his stock, as did injuries and an unimpressive senior year with the Spiders. It now appears the former high school superstar from Orange County will be fortunate just to get drafted. A torn ACL ended his junior season after five games, and he was only the fifth-rated passer in the Colonial Athletic Association in a senior season during which Richmond went 3-8. He threw for 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 63.7 percent of his attempts for 2,682 yards. The highlight was an FCS single-game record for completion percentage (91.2), going 31 of 34 for a career-high 353 yards in a loss to Towson. Also going against Corp is that he didn't perform well against FBS schools. In two starts against them while at Richmond, he was a combined 32 for 63 for 376 yards with one TD and two INTs. Though he has a good athletic pedigree - his father was a wideout for Idaho State and his mother played volleyball there - Corp has limited mobility due partly to injuries and has a smallish build for a player of his height. However, he surprised some scouts with a 40-yard dash time of 4.72 seconds which tied for fifth-best among quarterbacks. |
