| Witt made news this past fall when he turned down a Rhodes Scholarship interview to lead Yale during its annual matchup with rival Harvard. He made even more after the New York Times reported in January that his candidacy for the prestigious scholarship was already suspended before the game following an informal complaint of sexual assault. Witt has publicly disputed that allegation, but the truth remains unclear. Witt has attempted to focus on his NFL prospects but he is considered a middle-to late-round prospect at best despite three record-setting seasons with the Bulldogs. After transferring from Nebraska, Witt set career marks at Yale with 549 completions, 913 attempts, a 60.1 completion percentage and 6,033 yards. His 37 touchdowns ranked second. Witt was invited to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, where he completed just two of eight passes for 21 yards, and the NFL combine. At the latter event, he said he got the chance to give his side of what happened this past fall, but Witt might also have been asked questions about his less recent past. Before arriving at Yale, Witt was arrested on Dec. 9, 2007, for a disturbance at a Nebraska residence hall. After transferring before the 2009 season, he reportedly was arrested again the next year for trespassing when he was denied entry into a nightclub near Yale's campus. The son of commercial airline pilots, Witt attended four high schools in three years, including two in Texas during his senior year. He played his final prep campaign at Wylie High School in suburban Dallas. |
