Scouting Report

A prolific scorer, solid rebounder and strong ball handler, Hamilton is considered one of the best small forwards in this year's draft class. The versatile and athletic Hamilton finished fourth in the Big 12 in both scoring at 18.6 points and rebounds at 7.7 per game as a sophomore for Texas this season. He is dangerous shooting a mid-range jumper but can also put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. The all-Big 12 first-team selection has excellent vision and does a good job of pushing the ball up the court on fast breaks. He is also an adept defender, using his long arms to frustrate opponents and doing a good job of recognizing when his teammates need help defensively. One concern about Hamilton's game is that he sometimes puts up ill-advised shots. He attempted 552 shots in 2010, the fourth-most by a player from the six power conferences. Although he is sometimes seen as being a bit selfish, most pro teams believe Hamilton won't take as many questionable shots when he is on an NBA team surrounded by veterans. Several teams like Hamilton's wide array of talents, and he will likely be a first-round pick and could be a lottery selection.
