Scouting Report
| After making 84 starts in three seasons at Oregon State, Cunningham decided to head to the NBA. He was second in the Pac-12 with 17.9 points per game as a junior, though he didn't receive much national recognition playing on a team that went 7-11 in conference play. Although he might have benefited from another season in college, Cunningham is predicted to be a second-round pick. He's an exceptional athlete who is impressively fast and excels at getting the first step on defenders. Cunningham is just as capable at the other end of the court, making two conference all-defensive teams. His size is closer to that of an NBA point guard but his style reflects the tendencies of a shooting guard, as he is a good shooter in transition and doesn't boast great ballhanding skills. Cunningham did run the point occasionally in his final season at Oregon State, but he averaged as many turnovers per game (2.8) as assists. He'll likely need to improve in those areas because he's projected to play point guard in the pros, given his less-than-ideal height for an NBA shooting guard. Cunningham also needs to work on his shot selection and improve his range from beyond the 3-point arc, as he made 33.8 percent in his final season. |
