| Lillard was the second-leading scorer in the country last season, averaging a career-high 24.5 points to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. He also shot 40.9 percent from 3-point range in 2011-12, bringing his career average to 39.0, and had a 46.7 overall field-goal percentage. Lillard's focus at Weber State was on scoring, as evidenced by his 18.8 points-per-game average, but many scouts believe he'll be able to transition into the role of a more traditional point guard in the NBA. A quick penetrator who uses his athleticism and speed to get to the rim, Lillard can keep defenders honest with the shooting range that many point guards don't possess. His height, size and long arms make him an all the more intriguing prospect at the point, and his outstanding ability to take care of the ball - he turned it over on only 12 percent of his possessions - makes him all the more appealing to potential employers. Also working in his favor is the fact that he excelled at running the pick-and-roll, a staple of many NBA teams. He turns the corner quickly to get into the paint and his aggressive approach leads to lots of trips to the foul line, where he made 88.7 of his free throws last season and 86.7 for his career. If there's a major knock on Lillard, it's that he'll need to improve his court vision and passing to effectively man the point - something not easily done at the NBA level. He also has a low release on his jumper, though his quickness and deceptiveness usually allow him to get his shot off. He could be a lottery pick and probably won't last past the middle of the first round. |
