| An honorable mention All-American in his senior season at St. Bonaventure, Nicholson was the Atlantic 10 player of the year after averaging a conference-best 18.5 points and leading the Bonnies to their first-ever A-10 conference tournament title and first NCAA tournament berth since 2000. Nicholson, from suburban Toronto, was under-recruited in part because he didn't start playing basketball until high school. However, he was the A-10 rookie of the year in 2008-09 and averaged a career-high 20.8 points as a junior. Nicholson also put up big rebounding numbers in his four seasons, averaging a career-best 8.4 as a senior to finish second in the A-10. He was fourth in the conference with 2.0 blocks per game in 2011-12, and finished his career with 2,103 points to rank second on the Bonnies' all-time list. His 244 blocks are the second most since the school began keeping track of that statistic in 1975. Nicholson is a versatile forward who can step out and make a 3-pointer, as he shot 23 of 53 (43.4 percent) from beyond the arc as a senior after not taking a 3 in his first two seasons and making six of 23 attempts as a junior. One knock on Nicholson is his lack of upper-body strength and bulk, which was good enough to get him by in the A-10 but may prevent him from planting himself in the lane in the NBA. Nicholson is expected to be chosen late in the first round. |
