Scouting Report

Like the Tar Heels, Davis didn't have as smooth a 2009-10 season as many anticipated. The Richmond, Va., product showed flashes of brilliance but didn't live up to lofty expectations as North Carolina struggled to a 20-17 finish and missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2003. The Tar Heels might have fared better down the stretch had Davis not missed the final 13 games after undergoing surgery to repair a broken left wrist. Davis, who is left-handed, has recovered fully, and the injury doesn't figure to keep him from being a lottery pick. In fact, even though Davis wasn't dominant during his sophomore season, many scouts are predicting he'll go as high as No. 7 in the draft. He was solid but unspectacular with 13.4 points per game last season, but he ranked among the nation's best with a 57.8 field-goal percentage in large part because he's very athletic and active in the paint. Though he's still raw offensively, Davis is very polished on the other end of the floor. He led the ACC with 2.8 blocks per game and finished second with 9.6 rebounds per contest last season. These strengths in his game have some scouts drawing favorable comparisons to Al Horford, a standout post player at Florida who has emerged as an NBA All-Star with the Atlanta Hawks. Davis certainly has a chance to be an All-Star someday, and because of that potential, he'll hear David Stern call his name early on draft night.
