| Aminu, whose name means "the chief has arrived" and descends from a line of Nigerian kings, now has his sights set on becoming NBA royalty. The Wake Forest product is a likely top-10 selection and a nearly surefire lottery pick. He opted to enter the draft after a sophomore season in which he averaged 15.8 points and 10.7 rebounds, totaling 19 double-doubles in 31 games to lead the Demon Deacons to a 20-11 record and the second round of the NCAA tournament, where they lost 90-60 to top-seeded Kentucky. He earned third-team AP All-America honors and was named to the All-ACC second team. The first Wake Forest player to lead the ACC in rebounding since Tim Duncan in 1997, Aminu had the best game of his career Jan. 3 in a 96-92 double-overtime victory over Xavier, finishing with 26 points and 18 rebounds. Despite the fact he'll be a small forward in the NBA, Aminu has the potential to emerge as a top rebounder thanks to his leaping ability and overall athleticism. He's also a good shot blocker (82 in 62 career games), has a reputation as a solid defender, and runs the floor well. To become a star in the NBA, Aminu will need to develop more consistency with his perimeter shot - he made 25 of 105 career 3-pointers - and could also stand to add some muscle to fill out his still-maturing 19-year-old frame. |
