Scouting Report
| Johnson left UC-Santa Barbara after becoming the school's all-time leading scorer in just three seasons with 1,825 points. Before joining the Gauchos, Johnson spent one year at Loyola Marymount, setting a freshman program record with 383 points and tying the freshman record with 152 rebounds. He declared for the 2011 NBA draft after winning Big West conference player of the year but ended up returning to Santa Barbara and his scoring average dipped, from 21.1 as a junior to 19.7 last season. Johnson still became the second player in school history to be named All-Big West in three consecutive years and to the Big West all-tournament team three times, including MVP honors in 2010. A career 41.1 percent 3-point shooter at Santa Barbara, Johnson is a threat from beyond the arc but has the strength and skills to get to the rim and finish. Though he played in a smaller conference, Johnson got experience playing with and against elite athletes as he competed for Team USA at last summer's World University Games. Whichever team picks Johnson will get an athletic swingman who should be able to deal with any type of adversity thrown at him. He never met his father, his mother was murdered and he was raised by his older brothers when their grandmother passed away when he was 11 years old. A communication major at Santa Barbara, Johnson has aspirations to work in television once his basketball career is over. |
