Dominique Jones

Scouting Report

After three years at South Florida, Jones elected to forgo his senior season after a stellar performance in 2009-10. He finished second in the Big East and 14th in the nation with 21.4 points per game and was fifth in the country in free throws attempted at 8.5 a game. The guard can create his own shot by overpowering his defender or by using his quickness. As evidenced by his free-throw attempts, he isn't afraid of contact and excels at drawing fouls. Despite his dynamic final season, there are questions as to what position Jones will play in the NBA. While taller than many point guards, he is short for a shooting guard, and is not a great shooter despite upping his average from 41.9 to 45.0 percent from the field last season. He has never excelled from 3-point range, averaging 31.1 percent in 2009-10 and 32.3 in his college career. He doesn't get great lift on his jumper, which could further hamper him against long NBA defenders. A strong rebounder, he averaged a career-high 6.1 boards last season and is known as a good leader. Jones is something of a question mark, but his high-energy style and prolific scoring could make him a good fit as a productive player off the bench. He could go late in the first round or early in the second.
