Kevin Seraphin

Scouting Report

Seraphin could be the next player from French club Cholet to hear his name called out on draft night. Last season, guard Rodrigue Beaubois of Cholet was picked late in the first round by Oklahoma City before being shipped to Dallas in a trade, and fellow guard Nando De Colo got taken 51st overall by San Antonio. Beaubois emerged as a key player for the Mavericks late in his rookie season, while De Colo has yet to come stateside. Seraphin, a 6-foot-9 center who likely will be shifted to power forward, has the athleticism and mobility needed to play in the NBA. In 29 games with Cholet last season, Seraphin averaged 6.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game, as the club finished with a 23-7 regular-season record - good for first place in the Pro A standings. Seraphin has had some limited experience against top-tier college players from North America. In April 2009, he was a member of the World Select junior basketball team that recorded a 97-89 upset of its US counterpart led by John Wall, Xavier Henry and Avery Bradley. Three months later, Seraphin helped lead France to a silver medal at the FIBA Europe Under-20 championships, and was named to the All-Tournament team. While Seraphin's game has improved, he needs to consistently forge more of a defensive presence with his body instead of his feet, and stay out of foul trouble. Seraphin likely will be selected in the second round, but could be a late first-round pick.
