Scouting Report

Prior to the season, the Tigers were viewed as a potential national champion with Duren and fellow freshman Emoni Bates leading the way. Well, Memphis didn't quite fulfill those huge expectations, but Duren showed why he could be a star.
Playing just over 25 minutes a game, Duren averaged 12 points and 8.1 rebounds while blocking 2.1 shots. He shot nearly 60 percent from the field while displaying the defensive skill to make any NBA general manager drool.
Strengths: Duren is a big man who plays like it. With a 7-5 wingspan attached to a 6-11, 250-pound frame, he has the potential to control the lane on both ends of the court. At his best, he can score and rebound in concert on the offensive end while rejecting shots and grabbing rebounds on defense. His ability to "second jump" allowed him to average three offensive boards per game and because of his reach, he's a threat to convert any lob around the goal into a highlight dunk. He can run the floor very well for a big man and he also does a good job in pick-and-roll situations. Duren has a nice jump hook over his left shoulder and displayed promise as a passer.
Weaknesses: Some of these can be fixed with time. One that concerns scouts is that he didn't always appear motivated to play. That will find him a seat on any team's bench if that happens in the NBA. Duren has to improve his free throw shooting - 62 percent last year - or he'll be a liability in close games down the stretch. His post moves offensively are limited, aside from the aforementioned jump hook. Could be a franchise player if a team can develop him, or a bust otherwise.
