Scouting Report
| The son of former NBA player Jabari Smith Sr., the younger Smith entered the draft following one season at Auburn where he took the Southeastern Conference by storm as a position-less matchup nightmare due to his combination of size and skill. |
| At 6-10, Smith is a creative wing or point forward with the ball in his hands, capable of shooting over most defenders with a soft touch and evolving mid-range game. He's not the most explosive off the bounce, and NBA defenders will be in his pocket on pull-up jumpers. Smith can still win with creativity and court vision. |
| He averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and 42 percent from the 3-point line in 2021-22. |
| Strengths: Disruptive to dominant defender with fast hands, long arms and agility to recover from a step behind. Defends with energy and communicates like a leader on the court. Fundamentally sound, clearly a player who has grown up in and around basketball. Can finish left or right. Knows and studies game, opponents, and carries himself like a professional. Uses the glass and can pivot out of tight quarters to rise and score. Very good hands to catch off-target passes. Moves with a smooth, controlled gait and has the body control to adjust his shot mid-air. Makes pull-up 3s look easy and has a natural release and motion. Polished post player for his position but won't outsize all defenders as he often did at the SEC level. Runs the floor well and keeps possessions alive with rebounding and hustle. |
| Weaknesses: Shooting percentage points to a perimeter-reliant scoring approach that often led to lower-scoring games and failed to accentuate his total package as a scorer. Can draw contact and finish but doesn't seek and-1s. Rebounds with height and reach, will need low-leverage and position to continue production level in NBA. Frame is light, but with drive and maturity to develop NBA body. |
