Scouting Report

As a freshman at Baylor, Sochan averaged 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds in 25.1 minutes per game, canning 47.4 percent of his field goal attempts. In his last eight games, Sochan upped his scoring production to 12.3 ppg.
The attraction to Sochan is simple: At 6-9 and 230 pounds, he's the paradigm of the modern forward. He can guard multiple positions on defense and at just 19 years old, there's plenty of time for him to grow into being a star.
Strengths: The comparison NBA scouts make is to Kyle Kuzma and if Sochan turns out like him, he's going to make a lot of money at this game. Sochan has long arms and can be used in a number of ways defensively, whether it's as a trapper or to block shots from the weak side. His rebound rate was impressive at Baylor; he grabbed one roughly every four minutes, which equates to 10 over a 40-minute performance. He also made 1.3 steals per game, which also gets one's attention when considering that he wasn't on the floor for more than 25 minutes a game. And although he didn't make a great percentage on 3-pointers, his stroke suggests he can as he finds consistency.
Weaknesses: He made just 29.6 percent on 3-pointers and hit less than 60 percent at the foul line. He simply has to work on his shot to be more than a rim runner. Sochan had streaks at Baylor where he didn't take care of the ball, committing four turnovers in five different games. Needs more polish to successfully convert around the rim against even smaller defenders. Could be a lottery pick but would be best served by getting drafted by a team that can give him time to develop.
