Scouting Report

Branham's one college season saw him average 13.7 points on 49.8 percent shooting, including an excellent 41.6 percent mark from the 3-point line, as the Buckeyes' No. 2 scorer behind E.J. Liddell. That was good enough for Branham to turn pro.
A member of the Big Ten Conference's All-Freshman team, he was also a third team all-conference pick and the conference's Rookie of the Year as well. He hails from the same high school program that brought the world LeBron James.
Strengths: Branham can score at all three levels when playing at his best. As his shooting percentages show, he's not just a good shooter, but knows what's a good shot and what isn't, a trait not every high scorer possesses. Another good sign is that he converted 70 percent of his attempts at the rim, which usually indicates that he's able to score through contact. Branham can create his shot, particularly when driving to his right, and has the ability to hit from mid-range and off the dribble. Some scouts compare him to Khris Middleton and if his career rivals his, the team that gets him is probably going to be happy that it made that investment.
Weaknesses: Like many players who have just completed one year of college basketball, Branham isn't a finished product. That's particularly evident on defense, where a 6-5 athlete still couldn't generate more than 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocked shots per game. Teams had success picking on him in pick-and-roll situations because Branham doesn't always stay balanced going around screens. Branham also struggled at times when offensive players sought contact in post-ups or on penetration. However, it wouldn't be a surprise if someone overlooked those shortcomings and popped him in the middle of the first round.
