Scouting Report
| Houstan played a freshman season at Michigan before opting to move on. He's a quality shooter from the perimeter and at 6-foot-8 he can shoot over opponents without much difficulty. |
| He averaged 10.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, shooting 36 percent from 3-point range in his one college season. He was fourth on the Michigan team in scoring and rebounding, so he certainly didn't hold a go-to role. |
| The Canadian had a solid youth career on the international level, and that might be the source of much of the draft buzz. |
| He won't turn 20 years old until January, so much of the evaluation regarding his talents is in the initial stages. Yet Houstan opted to turn down an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, perhaps further complicating where he might end up. |
| Strengths: He has a fluid shot and good form, seeming to be ready to launch with a quick release. He has a knack for finding open spaces and gets up and down the floor well in transition. He gained considerable experience prior to playing for Michigan and his evaluators might be leaning on much of that in seeing what they like and his stock was high as he began his college career. Many scouts have seen enough to continue to rate him high. |
| Weaknesses: He's not likely to be battling with many forwards in terms of his physicality, though there is an upside that he's likely going to full out much of his frame. He's listed at no more than 210 pounds entering the draft. It's unclear how reliable he can be in creating his own shots, so this could be a project in order to find the right fit. Yet he's likely to be mostly a perimeter player and he'll have to prove that he can do more in the lane before defense's respect his ability to create on drives. He might be slotted strictly as a wing player. |
