Scouting Report
| He started only six of 33 games for Alabama, though landed on the Southeastern Conference's all-freshman team for 2021-22. He led the Crimson Tide with 4.3 assists per game. He scored in double figures in only 13 games, so that's not likely to automatically suggest that he's NBA material. Yet a season-high 20 points against Gonzaga certainly generated attention. |
| At 6-foot-2, there might be more physical growth. He won't turn 20 years old until the fall, providing the benefit of a player with time to blossom but the drawback on the experience level. |
| Strengths: He can make the highlight plays and that general athleticism is why some scouts see a higher ceiling. He can move at a fast clip and has a strong motor. He likes to put on a show and he can elevate over many guards. He should be able to get to the lane and he's mostly a strong finisher when he gets close to the basket. Turned in some of his best performances in upsets of Gonzaga and Baylor, so he can rise to the occasion. |
| Weaknesses: His lack of experience might expose some flaws, whether that comes trying to adjust to a role as point guard that might not have him as the focal point of the offense or dealing with more crafty seasoned veterans. Unless he's molded strictly as a point guard, then his perimeter shooting needs to be refined - and that's probably the case even if he is primarily directing an offense. For all the pizzaz that he can provide, he's also prone to turnovers and that must tighten up. Defensively he's raw in many areas, making up for some of that with athleticism but that only goes so far. He'll probably have to defend opposing point guards, so teams will have to decide how much they're willing to withstand growing pains until he gets the knack for that. |
