OVERVIEW |
Sharpe averaged 9.5 points and 7.6 rebounds in his lone college season and is long on potential but currently not truly ready for the NBA. |
The 19-year-old would have been better served spending another season at North Carolina, not just in terms of building on his freshman season but also in getting physically stronger and shedding excess pounds. |
Sharpe has reportedly been fine-tuning his body all summer and hoisting a lot of 3-pointers during workouts. He attempted just two 3-pointers -- missing both -- in 29 games (four starts) with the Tar Heels so he's a huge question mark as an outside shooter. |
Sharpe is good in the interior though and should be able to mix it up with NBA big men as he matures. His rebounding was solid and he displayed a nose for collecting offensive boards. |
Sharpe had 26 blocked shots and 23 steals on defense, and he projects as a decent shot blocker at the professional level. He is a good athlete for his size. |
ANALYSIS |
Positives: Solid rebounder who knows how to maneuver and grab offensive boards. Can find shots in the interior without trouble due to his athletic ability. Should become a solid shot blocker as he adapts to the NBA game. |
Negatives: Has no track record as a 3-point shooter so it is hard to project whether he will be able to make the transition to making 3s in the NBA. His body needs work so conditioning could be an issue down a line when he gets older. Another college season might have made a big difference for his development as a player. |
