| Burst upon the scene in 2021-22, winning Big Ten Conference Player of the Year honors as the Hawkeyes peaked late in the season, winning the conference tournament before a stunning first round loss to Richmond at the NCAA Tournament. |
| Murray averaged 23.5 points and 8.7 rebounds as a sophomore, canning 55.4 percent of his field goal attempts and 39.8 percent of his 3-pointers. He also fashioned a low turnover rate and averaged 1.3 steals. |
| Strengths: Murray is an above-average athlete with the ability to score at all three levels. Proved last year that he could step into the role of a go-to scorer and did it efficiently. He understands the meaning of a good shot, as most Iowa players do under Fran McCaffery. He can post up and score on smaller defenders or face the bucket and score from long distance if needed. Scouts also like his willingness to stick his nose in traffic and score on hustle plays, an indicator of a player's desire level. That he grabbed nearly three offensive boards a game last year is a tell of how hard he plays. Murray is also a capable shot-blocker, averaging nearly two per game last year to go along with his steals. |
| Weaknesses: Scouts do have questions about his true NBA position. While 6-8 and 225 profiles as a small forward for some, his length could allow him to play at power forward or even as a smallball center. Murray will have to work on his left hand to make that more of a weapon around the bucket; he had some trouble doing that at Iowa and NBA teams will force him to use the off-hand. But that shouldn't keep him from getting popped as high as 5th overall by Detroit. |
