Scouting Report

Roddy was the Mountain West Player of the Year, helping Colorado State to a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. He was a starter for most of his three seasons with the Rams.
His scoring average bumped from 11.4 to 15.9 to 19.2 points per game each year, so that steady upgrade is something that impresses the pro scouts. His rebounding numbers fluctuated, going from 9.4 per game as a sophomore to 7.6 as a junior.
He might be tagged as a second-round pick unless a team has a certain need late in the first round.
Strengths: For a player listed at 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, he's going to surprise some defenders with his quickness. There's some versatility here because of his physical make-up, leading some observers to ponder if he could fill in at the "5" spot because of his girth and ability to bang on the interior. He has a nice touch for a big guy, bagging 43.8 percent of his 3-point attempts during the past season. His long-range shooting should translate well to the pro's 3-point arc. His shooting stroke became so much more consistent by his third college season that he's reliable if given an open shot. He has developed strong low-post moves because of the tendency to have him overpower foes in the lane.
Weaknesses: There will be questions about how he'll fit into a team's defensive plans because he's unlikely to contend with small forwards on the NBA level, particularly if a steady diet of perimeter defending is called for. His grit and football mentality - he was a high school standout on the gridiron - might go only so far if he's constantly chasing athletic small forwards. His ball handling might look OK for players prone to be in the post, but improvement is bound to be needed if he's in possession of the ball a lot in the fast-paced NBA.
