NBA Draft

Santi Aldama

Scouting Report

OVERVIEW
If you didn't know anything about Aldama, here's a quick primer: He became the first player in Patriot League history last season to average 20 points and 10 rebounds in a season since Colgate's Adonal Foyle did it three straight years in the mid-1990s.
Aldama, a slender Spaniard, improved across the board from a good freshman year. He canned 51.3 percent from the field, 36.8 percent on 3-pointers and 68.6 percent at the line, a sizable jump from 51.5 percent as a freshman.
Aldama is capable of passing for profit (39 assists) but must take better care of the ball (55 turnovers). His length enables him to make plays defensively in passing lanes (17 steals) and as a rim protector (29 blocks in 17 games).
Aldama was consistent, scoring in double figures in every game and ringing up at least 20 points 11 times. He also produced in big games, lighting up Army for 33 on just 15 shot attempts in the Patriot League semifinals.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Made clear progress from his freshman to sophomore year, displaying the ability to carry a team through a game. Became more efficient offensively and also grabbed double-figure rebounds nine times, including 22 in February at Lafayette. Scouts like that he's a cerebral player.
Negatives: He's going to have to bulk up to be a good pro and even though the Patriot League has improved, it's still not the ACC or Big 12 in terms of competition. So while Aldama is an intriguing player, his resume still offers more questions than answers.
