Scouting Report
| Liddell's college career was a classic exercise in stair-stepping. From solid role player as a freshman to emerging star as a sophomore to team leader as a junior, Liddell progressed nicely with the Buckeyes. He hit for 19.4 ppg as a junior. |
| A versatile offensive player who took good shots and showed he could hit from deep, Liddell also became a good rebounder and averaged 2.6 blocks per game as a junior. There was nothing left for him to prove in college. |
| Strengths: A three-level scorer, Liddell understands what a good shot is and isn't. He made 48 percent from the field during his career and sank 37.4 percent of his 3-pointers last year. In addition, he averaged 7.9 rebounds last year and cut down his foul rate despite playing a physical game in perhaps the nation's most physical league. Scouts praise Liddell's intelligence and ability to pass out of the post, and noted his hard work to improve his conditioning. That allowed him to play more than 33 minutes per game last year and might have had something to do with his dramatic increase in blocked shots. He could be a pick-and-fade kind of player offensively. |
| Weaknesses: At 6-7 and 245 pounds, Liddell will be an undersized power forward/center in the pros. That will limit some of what he can do at the next level. A good but not great athlete, he could experience issues converting shots in the lane against longer defenders who can match his strength. There are concerns that Liddell needs some real work to improve his left hand around the rim. But his work ethic and thirst to improve was a consistent feature at Ohio State and it might get him drafted late in the first round. |
