OVERVIEW |
Wieskamp started all 97 of his college games and finished his career with 1,283 points and 181 3-pointers. The latter is ninth most in Iowa history. |
He averaged 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds as a senior and made a superb 46.2 percent of his 3-point attempts. He knocked down 73 3-pointers last season and figures to be utilized from long range early in his NBA career. |
Wieskamp, who turns 22 in August, not only shoots well but is a solid rebounder for his size. He displayed a 48-inch vertical jump at the NBA combine, which ranked among the top five at the draft showcase. |
Wieskamp operates well without the ball, a quality that served him well with the Hawkeyes having a star inside player in Luka Garza. When defenses paid too much attention to Garza, Wieskamp would slide to the open spot, typically from behind the arc. |
Wieskamp's defense can use some work. He had 29 steals last season but is capable of accumulating more. He also had nearly as many turnovers (43) as assists (53). |
ANALYSIS |
Positives: Wieskamp will immediately help a team with his outside shooting as he is a top-notch shooter from behind the arc. Being able to rebound well is another quality that will give Wieskamp early playing time. Wieskamp has enough athleticism to hang with NBA players. |
Negatives: Though he shoots well, Wieskamp can be prone to periods of streakiness that can include a run of errant shots. His skillset points to a player who should be able to make more of an impact on the defensive end but he isn't comfortable guarding quicker players. Had just 10 blocked shots, surprising for someone with a superb vertical leap. |
