NBA Draft

Charles Bassey

Scouting Report

The Lagos, Nigeria, native is big and strong, and his statistics reflect it. He averaged 17.6 points and 11.6 rebounds as a junior - the second time in three seasons in which he posted a double-double in those categories. He did the same as a freshman when he averaged 14.6 points and 10.0 rebounds, and he narrowly missed out as a sophomore when he averaged 15.3 points and 9.2 boards.
Positives: Bassey has great size, and he dominated the competition while playing for mid-major Western Kentucky. He shot 53.3 percent or better in each of his three seasons, and he also showed touch at the free-throw line, topping 75 percent in each of his three seasons. On defense, Bassey proved to be menacing as he blocked 3.1 shots per game as a junior in 2020.
Negatives: The biggest question regarding Bassey could have to do with the level of competition. There is a huge difference between Western Kentucky's schedule and an NBA schedule, and it will be up to Bassey to prove that he can push people around in the paint at the next level just like he could in college. The NBA is a quicker, leaner game than ever before, and Bassey likely slots in as a bench contributor who can come in to make high-percentage shots and to hassle opposing big men on defense.
