NBA Draft

Dyson Daniels

Scouting Report

Plenty of athletes are two-sport stars, i.e. football plus baseball. When you hail from Australia like Daniels does, there's a good chance one of those sports is Australian rules football. Daniels put his footballing days aside to pour everything into basketball, and that's about to pay off for the projected lottery pick.
A guard-slash-forward who checks in at around 6-foot-7, Daniels led the G League Ignite in 2021-22 with 4.4 assists per game while also averaging 11.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals.
Daniels' all-around game has many analysts slotting him inside the top 10. On a team that included Jaden Hardy and MarJon Beauchamp, Daniels was considered by scouts the most pro-ready of the group.
Strengths: Passing and ball-handling skills help Daniels facilitate like a point guard even as he plays on the wing. Thrives on the pick-and-roll and gets teammates involved easily. An unselfish player. Possesses a lethal floater. Daniels plays strong defense and draws praise for his hustle, feel and basketball IQ. Mature. Hustles for rebounds and steals. Just turned 19 in March, meaning he has plenty of time to grow and fine-tune his game.
Weaknesses: Not a reliable shooter. Made just 25.5 percent from 3-point range and 73.7 percent from the charity stripe for the Ignite last season. Not incredibly athletic or explosive. Has plenty of room for improvement as a shot creator. Could limit turnovers a bit more after committing 2.4 per game with the Ignite.
