NBA Draft

Khalifa Diop

Scouting Report

Diop has spent the past four years with CB Gran Canaria, a club that plays in the top tier of Spanish basketball. His stats don't leap off the page -- he has averaged 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in Liga ACB competition this season -- but his measurables do.
Diop is listed at either 6-foot-11 or 7-foot, depending on the source, and he weighs as much as 250 pounds. With that height and frame, he would look right at home on the low block in an NBA game.
Given his international status, age and unrefined game, Diop is a candidate for an NBA team to "draft and stash" overseas for a year or so of additional development.
Strengths: Defense. Diop protects the rim, gets out to the perimeter and can switch on screens. Has both the size and the desire to be a good rebounder. Great at setting screens. Has gotten a taste of some of the best competition on offer in Spain and around Europe. Brings massive energy. Just 20 years old, not much different from college freshmen or sophomores in the class.
Weaknesses: His skills on offense need work as a whole. Skill level coming along, but room for improvement. Can't be expected to shoot from mid-range or the 3-point arc. Just a 52.4 percent free throw shooter across all competitions for Gran Canaria. Draws as many fouls as he commits.
