The 6-11 center was barred from coming to Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine by his professional team in Spain, Unicaja Malaga, which insisted that he finish out the season. |
Long-term project and at age 18, he might be better served playing another season in Europe. If he's drafted, it's likely to be in the second round by a team not looking for immediate help. |
Playing in Europe's toughest league, Liga ACB, Nzosa has yet to find his niche, averaging 2.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 blocks, while playing 10.4 minutes per game this season. |
Strengths: With athleticism, speed and a 7-6 wingspan, Nzosa has potential to be an elite rim protector. He's quick off his feet and comfortable switching on the perimeter to smaller players. Finishes well near the rim and many of his scores come on rolls to the hoop. Energetic, active defender. Runs the floor well but lacks fluidity in the half court. Gets his quick hands on a lot of passes and loose balls. Hit 71.4% of his foul shots over the last two seasons. Has played in Europe for four years, making his debut with the U18 Stella Azzurra Roma as a 14-year-old. Before that, the French-speaking Nzosa was a soccer goalie in his native land. |
Weaknesses: Needs to develop discipline on defense to prevent getting caught out of position. Struggles with ball-handling but is a willing passer. Left-hand dominant, Nzosa needs lots of work on his right hand. Had more turnovers (20) than assists (8) this season. At less than 200 pounds, Nzosa also needs lots of time in the weight room. He has a way to go as well in developing his shot. Soon after coming to Europe, Nzosa was ranked the world's fourth-best prospect in his age group, but his development has been slow and his stock has tumbled. This year, Nzosa took a confounding step back from a promising 2020-21 season, leaving scouts wondering if he's ever going to blossom. |
