NBA Draft

Nikola Jovic

Scouting Report

During TV coverage of the draft, expect jokes to be made about how this isn't two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic reentering the draft pool. Both players hail from Serbia, but Jovic can make a name for himself as a likely first-round pick.
Jovic, a 6-foot-10 forward, turns 19 two weeks before the draft, yet he already has some accomplishments under his belt in Europe. In his first season with Mega Mozzart in Belgrade (2020-21), he averaged 11.8 points and 5.5 rebounds while playing just 24.8 minutes per game.
He started out as a guard before reaching his current height, leaving him with a great skill set for his size that will make him difficult for defenders to thwart, even in the NBA.
Strengths: Can score from inside and out. Gifted at cutting to the basket, beating defenders and throwing down dunks. Good shooting that can get better and more consistent with time. Comfortable at multiple levels of the post. A combo forward, he plays both the three and the four well. Good ball-handler and passer. Runs the floor in transition. High basketball IQ. His 7-foot wingspan will serve him at the NBA level.
Weaknesses: Needs to defend better. On offense, one shortcoming is his finishing at the rim. Not explosive. Thin frame that could stand to add some muscle, as NBA opponents will tend to be stronger physically than what he's accustomed to in Europe.
