NBA Draft

Scouting Report

Samanic is a 6-11, 230-pound forward from Croatia who last played for Slovenian club Olimpija Ljubljana. Scouts believe he can play either the "3" or the "4" position at the next level with impressive jump-shot range all the way to the 3-point line. He has played on the Croatian national team and seems comfortable with big-game action. Part of that comfort level might come from watching his father, Marko, who enjoyed a long career in the EuroLeague.
Samanic took part in the NBA Draft Combine, where he reportedly improved his stock with strong showings throughout the event. He told reporters in April that making the NBA has been his dream since he was a young child. Of all of his film, the best add to his resume in the past year is increased bulk and strength without the loss of agility or mobility.
Samanic has drawn comparisons to fellow Europeans such as Donatas Motiejunas and Nikola Mirotic. Granted, those are not Luka Doncic-level comparisons, but they show that scouts believe Samanic has a chance to become a meaningful NBA player over the course of the next few seasons.
At 19 years old, Samanic likely will continue to improve, and an NBA team can take its time developing this promising talent. He probably will not be an instant contributor but could develop into a solid "stretch four" shooter before too long.
Projection: Top 40 selection
