Scouting Report
| Though he had possibly the worst season statistically of any potential lottery pick, Drummond should go within the first five selections based on the belief he has such a great ceiling. A seemingly high-risk, high-reward prospect, Drummond has the physical tools to be a force in the NBA but often didn't live up to expectations during his only year at Connecticut. He's leaving school after a freshman season in which he averaged just 10.0 points and showed his offensive skills are limited. Still, Drummond could provide an immediate impact at the defensive end, having blocked 2.7 shots per game to rank 15th nationally. One of the nation's top recruits after winning a national prep title, Drummond clearly has the length, strength and frame of a pro-ready center, plus he runs the floor like a guard. While some scouts compare him to Dwight Howard, others are concerned he could join the long list of big-man busts. His inconsistency at UConn could be maddening, often following double-doubles with games in which he'd fail to score in double figures or even grab five rebounds. His worst performance may have been his last, fouling out with two points and three boards in a first-round NCAA tournament loss to Iowa State. Drummond did grab a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game, though how much effort he really gives on the glass has been questioned and some doubt his work ethic. Another major issue is free-throw shooting, having made 29.5 percent for the season and 5 of 28 in his final 10 games. The team which takes on the Drummond project hopes his collegiate struggles had more to do with the idea he was never comfortable with his place on a talented Huskies squad, and not that he lacks passion or aggressiveness. |
