Analysis: Ely, the 12th overall pick out of Fresno State in the 2002 draft, hasn't lived up to early expectations. The 6-foot-10, 260-pound Ely brings career averages of 6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds into his sixth NBA season. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.8 boards while playing in Charlotte's crowded frontcourt last season. In New Orleans, he'll compete for playing time with younger lottery picks in Hilton Armstrong and Cedric Simmons.
