Oct. 17 7:51 PM PT8:51 PM MT9:51 PM CT10:51 PM ET2:51 GMT10:51 7:51 PM MST9:51 PM EST6:51 UAE (+1)04:5122:51 ET9:51 PM CTNaN: - Kyrie Irving scored 22 points Tuesday on 8-of-17 shooting as the Boston Celtics lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-99. Irving pulled down four rebounds and dished out 10 assists, tallying a plus-minus of 0 in his 39:21 of playing time. He added three steals. Irving went 4 of 9 from 3-point range.
Analysis: Irving, who asked to be traded this summer after six seasons in Cleveland, had a chance to tie it with a 3-pointer at the horn but missed. He had a strong debut for Boston but now with Gordon Hayward's injury, his role is likely to change. Irving will have to carry a bigger scoring load and his distribution skills may take a backseat.
Aug. 25 8:44 PM PT9:44 PM MT10:44 PM CT11:44 PM ET3:44 GMT11:44 8:44 PM MST10:44 PM EST7:44 UAE (+1)05:4423:44 ET10:44 PM CTNaN: - The Cleveland Cavaliers examined Isaiah Thomas on Friday in Cleveland and apparently there are questions about his recovery from a postseason hip injury. Cavaliers officials are looking at the test results, reported, and how it might affect the trade that shipped Irving to the Boston Celtics earlier this week. There is speculation that the condition of his injured hip could void the deal.
Analysis: Tuesday's trade included Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round draft pick going to the Cavaliers for Irving. There's also the possibility that rather than voiding the deal the Cavaliers could ask for additional compensation such as another draft pick. Thomas suffered the injury during the playoffs and is rehabbing the hip. ESPN reported that he has not begun running.
Aug. 22 4:17 PM PT5:17 PM MT6:17 PM CT7:17 PM ET23:17 GMT7:17 4:17 PM MST6:17 PM EST3:17 UAE (+1)01:1719:17 ET6:17 PM CTNaN: - The Cavaliers have traded Irving to the Celtics for fellow All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic as well as a 2018 first-round pick Boston received from the Nets.
Analysis: Irving gets his wish after saying he wanted out of Cleveland and LeBron James' shadow, and he figures to be the No. 1 option in Boston even with the offseason addition of Gordon Heyward. Coming off a season in which he averaged a career-best 25.2 points per game, the four-time All-Star should go off the board early in fantasy drafts.
Aug. 8 9:54 AM PT10:54 AM MT11:54 AM CT12:54 PM ET16:54 GMT0:54 9:54 AM MST11:54 AM EST20:54 UAE18:5412:54 ET11:54 AM CTNaN: - Count former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin among those who believe Cleveland All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving will wind up being traded.
Analysis: Irving is reportedly seeking to be more of a focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James, leading to his trade request in mid-July. "I think Kyrie's going to end up getting traded," Griffin said Monday on ESPN television. Griffin, who parted ways with the Cavaliers in June after being unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension, said Irving handled the situation the right way and with courage.
July 21 1:11 PM PT2:11 PM MT3:11 PM CT4:11 PM ET20:11 GMT4:11 1:11 PM MST3:11 PM EST0:11 UAE (+1)22:1116:11 ET3:11 PM CTNaN: - Two people familiar with the situation said Irving has asked the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him. Irving made the request last week to owner Dan Gilbert, said the people who spoke Friday to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team is not commenting on the star's demands. Irving's appeal was first reported by ESPN.
Analysis: A four-time All-Star, Irving has spent six seasons with the Cavs, who selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2011. The 25-year-old has overcome injury issues and developed into one of the league's elite point guards. Irving is under contract for two more seasons with Cleveland, which has had a tumultuous offseason following a loss to Golden State in the NBA Finals. GM David Griffin parted ways with the club after failing to work out a new contract with Gilbert.
